One of the most exciting things that we did last year was to start selling at a few local farmer’s markets. It was by far the best thing we could have decided to do! We have met so many wonderful people and really started to feel like a part of the community.

When we started in the Spring, we only had a few little things on our table. I had some upcycled garden markers, and our little trays of plant starts. We had big plans to grow a bunch of that veg ourselves and have tables full of produce for later in the year. Instead we had a drought and a garden that was planted late. We had to get creative in a hurry!

We combed through our list of “things we might add to our table someday”, and got started on anything that didn’t need a lot of time and money. I turned my watercolour paintings into stickers, bookmarks, and canning labels. Travis advertised his isopods and springtails. We brought little cartons of quail eggs, and dehydrated sourdough starter. We kept plants on the table so that people would remember us in the Spring. This time they were indoor options like houseplants, herbs, and micro-tomatoes.

We were regular vendors for the rest of the year at both the Newcastle and Water St farmer’s markets. We were also vendors at the Blackville Night Markets all summer long. For the Christmas season we added the MVHS holiday markets, and our first time at the Napan Agricultural Grounds market. It was a busy first year, but so worth it!
We are so grateful for all of the people we have met doing this. It has been a lot of work, but also one of the things I have enjoyed the most this year.
The big year round markets are closed until March, but we will be at the pop up market at the Newcastle Legion on Sunday January 25th from 12-5, if you’ve been missing us!
